THIS WEEK IN THE WORLD OF ENTERTAINMENT

Short Takes

Russell Crowe (42) and wife Danielle Spencer (35) welcomed their second child this Friday. Tennyson Spencer Crowe was born at 7:27 a.m. on July 7, 2006 at Sydney’s Royal North Shore hospital and weighed in at an even eight pounds. Wed in April 2003, Crowe and Spencer Crowe are also parents to son Charles Spencer Crowe born Dec. 21, 2003.

70-year-old opera tenor Luciano Pavarotti has cancelled all concerts for the remainder of 2006 following surgery for pancreatic cancer. Instead of resuming his farewell world concert tour in Britain as planned, Pavarotti is recuperating in a New York hospital after doctors discovered what turned out to be a malignant pancreatic mass. While doctors were able to remove the entire mass, Pavarotti will not be able to resume his tour until early next year.

Truth Is So Much Stranger Than Fiction

Add memoirist to the already extensive resume for 41-year-old Robert Downey Jr. Primarily thought of as an actor, Downey received his theatrical debut in father Downey Sr’s film Pound (1970). Downey has since gone on to join the cast of Saturday Night Live, receive an Oscar nomination for Chaplin (1992), win a Golden Globe for Ally McBeal (2000), release an album “The Futurist" for Sony Classical (2004), and still found time to spend most of the nineties in one drug related legal battle after another. HarperEntertainment, a division of HarperCollins, announced on Thursday that these career and personal highs and lows would all be covered in Downey’s memoir to be released in 2008.

This Wont Be His First Time

Speaking of Renaissance Men, Sir Richard Branson is refashioning himself as the future Cameo King of Summer Blockbusters. Initially Branson was to have appeared in 1999’s Bond film The World Is Not Enough in an allusion to his own pursuit of hot-air balloon supremacy but, for reasons unknown, the scenes were never filmed. Now, having already appeared on screen this summer in Superman Returns, Branson recently completed filming a brief part in the next film from the James Bond franchise, Casino Royale.

Keep Your Hands Where I Can See 'Em

In perhaps the most random bit of gossip to surface on the Internet about a major celebrity, endorsements, and scandal, it seems all things Madonna may not be Madonna!! In recent photographs taken for an upcoming campaign by mega-fashion house H&M the hands attached to the creation known as, body by Madonna, are reportedly not hers. No, she didn’t follow in the steps of that chainsaw toting lunatic in the NY Subways, but sources seem to be quite confident that there has been some piracy on the Photoshop seas…oh yes, all is not well in the house of Madge.

Audition Tips For Success

1. Arrive early for any audition; at least thirty minutes if possible.

2. Be yourself.

3. Be polite. (This point cannot be stressed enough.)

4. Don't forget your headshot!
